A story game for video calls and long-distance friends
Most games for video calls need a screen share, a download or a host who has read the manual. Consequences needs a link. Everyone opens it on their own device, and the call stays the call: you talk, laugh and read the stories out loud.
It also suits long-distance friends and couples, because it needs no setup and everyone plays at the same time. It takes about as long as a cup of tea.
How to run it on a call
- Start a game and paste the link in the call chat. Everyone opens it on their own device. A phone is handy, because the call can stay on your computer.
- Write your line while the others write theirs. The game shows who is still writing.
- When the lines are done, the host opens each story one line at a time. Read it out loud on the call. Hearing it in someone else’s voice is half the fun.
Tips for a good game
- Four to six people is the sweet spot. Two works too, but you get fewer surprises.
- Do not explain your line. The less sense it makes, the better the story.
- If someone is slow, the host can have the game fill in a line so everyone else can carry on.
