How to play two truths and a lie
Two truths and a lie is a guessing game for any number of people. One person says three things about themselves. Two are true and one is a lie. Everyone else tries to work out which is which.
Steps
- Write your hand. Think of two things that are true about you and one that is not. Aim for a lie that is believable and a truth that sounds made up.
- Add the real story. If you like, write what is really behind the lie. It is shown after the guess.
- Send the link. Share the link or QR code with your friends. They do not need an account.
- Friends pick the lie. Each friend sees the three statements in a shuffled order and taps the one they think is the lie.
- Say how sure you are. Each guess is either not sure or sure. Being sure doubles the points when you are right and costs a point when you are not.
- See the reveal. After the last guess a friend sees the lie, the real story and how the rest of the group guessed.
- Check who you fooled. The author sees every friend by name, which statements they picked and whether they were sure.
The rules in short
- A hand is three statements: two true, one a lie.
- A round is one link with one to three hands.
- You cannot guess your own round.
- You guess every hand in a round before you see any answer.
How the points work
Each hand scores for the player who is guessing it.
- Found the lie: 1 point, or 2 if you were sure.
- Picked a truth: 0 points, or minus 1 if you were sure.
- A round never scores below zero.
In a room
On one device, one person writes a hand and passes the device round. Everyone guesses in secret under their own name, and the lie is shown to everybody when the last person has played.
