Play Consequences online with friends
Consequences is the old parlour game where everyone writes one line of a story, folds the paper over so only the last line shows, and passes it on. At the end somebody unfolds the paper and reads out a story nobody meant to write.
Playing it online keeps everything that makes it funny and takes away the paper. You start a game, send the link, and each person writes on their own device. The game does the folding for you: you only ever see the line before yours.
How an online game works
- One person starts a game and shares the link or QR code. Two to eight people can join.
- When everyone is in, the host starts. Everyone writes their first line at the same time, so nobody waits for anybody else.
- After each round the sheets move on. You are handed a new sheet and see only its last line.
- After seven lines the host opens each story one line at a time, and everyone reads along.
Why it works on any device
Each round is one short line, so a whole game takes ten to fifteen minutes. There is nothing to download and no account to make: you open the link, give a first name and you are in.
Because the game keeps the sheets, nobody can peek at the rest of a story, even by accident. That is the one thing a paper game cannot promise.
Good for
- Friends in different cities who want something to do on a call.
- A group chat that has run out of things to say.
- The end of a dinner, when everyone has a screen in reach anyway.
