Consequences game ideas: prompts, variations and story starters
The classic seven lines are hard to beat, but Consequences is easy to bend. Change the prompts and you have a different game. Here are variations for paper, and the house rules we like.
The online game plays the classic seven lines, and also has themed versions: the office, fairy tale, spooky, Christmas and breaking news. These ideas are for a pen and a sheet of paper, or for when your group wants to try something new.

House rules we like
- Everyone writes the first line about someone in the room.
- Add an eighth line: the moral of the story.
- Every player gets one veto and may rewrite their line once.
- Vote for a favourite story and read it a second time with voices.
How to get funnier lines out of a group
- Say specific things. “A dentist on holiday” beats “a man”.
- Keep each line to one idea. The next person has to be able to use it.
- Do not write for the story. Write for the line you are asked for.
